An interview with Nature + Nature

We caught up with Nicola from Nature + Nature.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m a North East girl and have spent the past 20 years working for a large corporate organisation, and after building a successful career I made the leap into the small business world in March this year.

I spent time travelling and volunteering in a school in Cambodia a few years ago and this experience really changed my values and perspective on life. This along with turning 40 last year is what made me re-assess life and make some big decisions.

I have a passion for mindset and self-care, having overcome many of my own personal health challenges – this led me to set-up Nature + Nature.

I can also be found meditating, tai chi, property developing, in nature and travelling the globe; Asia has a special place in my heart.

When did you get into health and wellness?

I’ve suffered from a number of autoimmune conditions since I was a teenager. Having tried all of the conventional routes without much success, I started on an alternative path after stumbling on a meditation book. I started doing a short 10 minute practice each morning and within a few weeks I could feel the benefits; my body was calmer and in less pain, and it really helped to reduce levels of anxiety. This was the start of a journey involving many other health and wellness changes to diet, supplements, therapies, and whilst I’m not free of all conditions it really has turned my life around.

When did you start your business and why?

I had been preparing to start the business during 2019 whilst still in full time employment, I knew it was time for a change in career direction, and setting up my own business sharing the knowledge and passion I had developed for natural wellbeing and self-care was the obvious move for me to make. It was also important that the business was set-up to give back, and I have partnered with United World Schools charity, so each purchase now made will fund one day of education to children in developing countries

How has lockdown affected your business?

I decided to leave my full time employment of 17 years just 3 weeks before lockdown – some may say bad timing! So despite a few doubts and wobbles, I continued with my plan and launched Nature + Nature in September during lockdown.

What do you love most about wellness and beauty?

I love nothing more than seeing how the natural world around us can be used to create products which truly can change people’s lives. When we listen to our bodies and take a simpler, back to nature approach to health and nutrition, it really can benefit us on so many physical and emotional levels.

What do you love most about the north?

It has to be the friendly bunch of people up North. I have nothing against the south, I love nothing more than spending time in London, however you just can’t beat coming home to a friendly smile and good chat with a stranger up north. And we’re also blessed with some of the most beautiful coastline; I live just 10 minutes to the beach and it’s been a life-saver during lockdown

What are your thoughts on Veganuary?

I personally don’t take part as I’ve got a number of food intolerances to many of the foods used to replace meat protein, so find vegan meals difficult. However I do support the concept of veganuary in terms of raising awareness of the benefits it has to people and planet of eating a more natural plant based diet, and reducing the levels of meat consumption.
