Trending: Low-rise jeans are making a comeback — and people aren’t happy about it

One of the biggest fashion trends from the 90s and 2000s is making a comeback, the low-rise, stomach revealing jeans; with models such as Hailey Bieber and Bella Hadid sporting the throwback style.

According to Lyst, searches for low-rise jeans are up 57% year-on-year and the most searched for styles alongside “low-rise” include “flared” and “baggy jeans” increasing 110%.

However, the return of low-rise jeans has caused some controversy. While popular among millennials and Gen Z on TikTok, viewers are criticising the garment. It appears the Noughties fashion trend has stirred up arguments that low-rise jeans exclude people who are uncomfortable showing off their stomach, as the denim garment is typically worn alongside crop tops.

Unfortunately, the 90s and 2000s were not exclusive to women of all shapes and sizes and typically favoured those with a slim build. The 90s was most commonly known as the “supermodel era” which saw models such as Kate Moss rise to fame, as well as the term “heroin chic” which was characterised by features such as pale skin, a very skinny body, dark red lipstick, and angular bone structure.

It is understandable that some people would be against low-rise jeans making a return. Maybe some trends are best left in the past. However, is there ever a trend that EVERYBODY loves? Surely not.

It was only a matter of time before this trend came back around, and at the end of the day, it’s up to you what you how high of low you wear your jeans.
